Clean School, Healthy Future – Hygiene & Cleanliness Awareness Initiative Community Service

Clean School, Healthy Future – Hygiene & Cleanliness Awareness Initiative

Project Objective: To create awareness among school children about personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and social responsibility, thereby encouraging them to become ambassadors of cleanliness in their homes and communities. Background: Mahatma Phule High School caters primarily to children from economically weaker sections, including families of migrant sugarcane workers, Lamani Tanda communities, and daily wage labourers. Rotary identified this school as an ideal place to initiate a sustainable cleanliness awareness programme that could bring lasting behavioural change. Project Activities; Conducted an awareness session on personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness. Motivated students to maintain clean uniforms, combed hair, trimmed nails, and clean footwear. Encouraged the school to observe a Cleanliness Week. Promoted the importance of keeping classrooms, playgrounds, and the school campus clean. Reinforced the message that cleanliness begins at the individual level and extends to the entire community. "In this project, students were selected based on their sincere dedication, disciplined conduct, and outstanding performance observed by the school teachers and observers. As a token of appreciation and encouragement, they were awarded with tiffin boxes as gifts." Observations: The school demonstrated remarkable commitment towards the initiative: Students showed noticeable improvement in personal hygiene. Classrooms and the school campus were maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. Every classroom was equipped with dustbins, brooms, and cleaning materials. The Headmaster, teachers, and School Management Committee actively participated and accepted responsibility for sustaining the cleanliness drive. The school's enthusiasm and cooperation ensured the successful implementation of the project. Impact: The project successfully instilled the message that "A clean home leads to a clean street, a clean street leads to a clean village, and ultimately a clean nation." By educating children at the grassroots level, Rotary has planted the seeds of lifelong hygiene habits and community responsibility. Rotary Members Involved: Rtn. Vishal Patil Rtn. "*Adopt A Tree*" ( tree plantation and cultivation)

The Rotary Club of Kolhapur Central organized a tree plantation drive at Shahu High School, Shahuwadi as part of its commitment to environmental conservation. During the program, high-quality 7-foot-tall saplings of mango, jamun (Indian blackberry), chikoo (sapodilla), jackfruit, lemon, and peepal trees were planted. A total of 50 saplings were planted in the school area. Furthermore, our Rotary Club of Kolhapur Central has taken an additional step. The club has assigned the responsibility of adopting a tree or plant to students who wish to participate voluntarily. These students are expected to care for and nurture the plant throughout the year. At the end of the year, the club will award prizes to those students who have taken the best care of their plants as a form of appreciation. The purpose of this initiative is not only to ensure the survival of the plants but also to foster a sense of civic responsibility in the upcoming generation and to enhance civic awareness within the community. The program was attended by Rtn. Naresh Shingade ( community service chair),Rtn. Sanjay Bhagat, Rtn. Avinash Chiknis, Rtn. Rajendra (R.Y.) Patil, and Rtn. Vishal Patil. The event was also graced by the presence of students, teachers, the Chairman of the School Management Committee, and other local committee members.
